How we collect, use and protect your personal information.

Legal

Your privacy matters to us, and protecting it is part of our pledge to you. This policy explains what personal information this website collects, why, who helps us process it, and the choices and rights you have under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

Who we are

Silke Financial Services CC is an Authorised Financial Services Provider, FSP No. 12462, at The Cottage, The Oval, Newlands, 7700, Cape Town. We are the responsible party for the personal information described here. You can reach us at engage@silke.co.za or +27 (0)21 683-3380.

This policy covers this website and our communiqués. If you are a client, how we handle the information you share with us as part of our advice is set out in our Terms of Engagement and Confidentiality Agreement.

What we collect, and why

  1. 1When you send an enquiry: your name, email address, and, if you give them, your telephone number, area of interest and message. We use these only to reply to you and arrange a conversation.
  2. 2When you visit: like most websites, our web server records technical details of each request (your IP address, browser, the page requested and the time) to keep the site secure and working. To protect the enquiry form from abuse, we keep a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address for up to an hour.
  3. 3With your consent, Google Analytics: how visitors use the site (pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser), so we can improve it. See Cookies below.
  4. 4If you receive our communiqués: your name and email address, to send them. Every communiqué has an unsubscribe link.
  5. 5Settings kept on your device: your light or dark mode choice and your cookie choice are stored in your own browser. They are not sent to us.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Who helps us

A few service providers process information on our behalf, only on our instructions and under agreements that require them to keep it secure:

  1. 1Our web hosting provider, which runs the server this site is on.
  2. 2Mailgun, which delivers the emails our enquiry form sends to us.
  3. 3Google, which provides Google Analytics, used only if you accept analytics cookies.
  4. 4Everlytic, which sends our communiqués.

Information sent outside South Africa

Mailgun and Google may store or process information outside South Africa, including in the United States. Where this happens, we rely on providers whose terms and safeguards give your information a level of protection comparable to POPIA, as section 72 of the Act requires.

Cookies

This site only sets cookies if you choose "Accept" in the cookie notice. They are Google Analytics cookies:

  1. 1_ga: tells one visitor from another. Kept for up to 2 years.
  2. 2_ga_9ZTWL6FVGY: keeps track of your visit. Kept for up to 2 years.

If you choose "Decline", or make no choice, no analytics cookies are set. Google then receives only anonymous signals without cookies, which cannot identify you or follow you between visits. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the foot of every page. Your choice itself is kept in your browser, not in a cookie.

How long we keep it

  1. 1Enquiries: for as long as we need to respond and follow up. If you become a client, your records are kept as the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act requires, at least five years after our relationship ends.
  2. 2Server logs: for the period set by our hosting provider for security purposes.
  3. 3Analytics: no longer than 14 months.

Keeping it secure

The site uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Enquiries are sent straight to our office by email and are not stored in a database on the website. Within the practice, access to personal information is limited to the people who need it to serve you.

Your rights

Under POPIA you may:

  1. 1ask whether we hold personal information about you, and for a copy of it;
  2. 2ask us to correct or delete it;
  3. 3object to how we use it, or withdraw a consent you have given (for example, to analytics cookies or our communiqués);
  4. 4complain to the Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za if you are unhappy with how we have handled your information.

To make a request, email engage@silke.co.za or phone us. Our Information Officer is Shane Thom.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date below.

Effective date: 23 October 2026.
