Dear Clients and Friends,
It's been a full week at Silke. Some difficult conversations, some lovely ones, and plenty of reminders of why we do what we do.
As I head home, one thought stays with me: we put so much effort into building our wealth, but we also need to make time to think about the people it is meant to support.
Several conversations this week came back to wills. Sitting with families, talking about children, grandchildren and their wishes, reminded me how personal this planning really is.
Who do you want to look after? What would you want to happen if they were no longer here? Who would you trust to take responsibility? And does the will you signed years ago still reflect your life today?
These questions deserve a proper conversation. Sometimes the most useful thing we can do is slow down, listen, and help someone put what matters to them into clear words.
Your will should reflect you: your wishes, your relationships and the responsibilities you want to provide for. Families change. Children grow up. Grandchildren arrive. People marry, divorce, become ill or pass away. An old document can quietly fall out of step with the life you are living.
Chris often reminds us of KISS: Keep It Simple.
I like that. Simple means clear, considered and practical. It still takes care to get there. The people who must carry out your wishes should be able to understand them, and the document needs to be properly prepared and signed.
When a family is grieving, clarity is a kindness.
The same thread ran through our investment conversations this week. Putting portfolios in place for children, for example, starts with a conversation about what we hope that money will make possible. Then we need to put the arrangements in place and follow through.
That is what Integrated Wealthcare means to me: bringing your investments, protection, retirement plans and estate wishes together around your actual life. Each part should support the people and purposes that matter to you.
So here is my invitation: take out your will and read it.
Does it still say what you want it to say? Does someone you trust know where to find it? Are there questions you have been meaning to ask, or changes you have been putting off?
If something feels unclear, let's talk while you have the time and opportunity to decide.
I know these conversations can feel uncomfortable. But there is peace of mind in knowing you have thought things through and given the people you love clear direction.
Have a lekker weekend. Enjoy your people.
Kind Regards
