Investing requires three distinct decisions to be made:
First, the decision is that you want to invest, in other words to expose your capital to different investment markets. Second, knowing why you investing and thirdly, when will you need the money. The first two decisions are about your investment decision is fairly easy to determine, but the how and where does seem to be the stumbling block for most of us.
The investment of money entails two distinctive processes, namely the formulation of an investment policy and then the investment strategy to be followed. What is your 'Investment Policy Statement - IPS'. IPS information clarifies the general investment goals and objectives of a client and defines the investment strategies that we would need to employ to meet these objectives. While the investment strategy refers to the methods used to invest capital. Specific information on matters such as time horizon risk and what asset class selection (equities, bonds, properties and liquidity requirements) would be considered.
You cannot expect any returns if you have not invested in the market and the majority of returns are explained by market returns. We cannot influence the market return, but we can decide upon our asset class exposure and strategy.

Silke Financial Services manages an uncomplicated range of model portfolios. These portfolios are designed to meet your investment time horizon goal risk profile. Our portfolios provide you with access to a focused range of unit trusts. Enabling us to buy, sell and rebalance at no charge as your needs and objectives change. Our investment process allows us to remain objective in our decision making and provide you with unbiased recommendations at every point in the relationship. Multi-manager analyses the portfolio characteristics of different investment managers, with the ultimate goal of combining them to reduce the potential downside risk investment managers have relative to one another. This risk is a result of investment managers seldom behaving the same way, and seldom producing consistent top-quartile returns.
Although the Silke model portfolios are recommended, in certain cases individual client portfolios may differ from the generic portfolios. It is the aim of the company to align all clients' individual investments over time with the Silke Model portfolios. The Silke Multi-Manager Portfolios only use funds that are registered with the Financial Services Board (FSB) and we require funds to be of a minimum size for liquidity purposes. Investing via our preferred platform gives you flexibility enabling us to put together investment portfolio(s) that best suits your needs. Allan Gray Investment Services Proprietary Limited is our preferred platform for the administration our Silke Multi-Manager Portfolios. The assets are however held by Allan Gray Nominees Proprietary Limited. Allan Gray Nominees is the independent company approved by the Financial Services Board that holds the assets in trust. Legislation dictates that trust property under no circumstances forms part of the assets or funds of the financial institution itself. Because the Silke Multi-Manager Portfolios are invested in protected funds and not in Allan Gray the company, if anything goes wrong with the investment management company, the Silke Multi-Manager Portfolios (your money) is safe from its creditors.
Silke Investment philosophy and General Investment Principles (Risk & Time Diversification) is based on the belief that markets are inefficient and that a significant amount of value can be added for our clients by applying an active approach. We believe in mean reversion. This means that both high and low asset prices (relative to their long-term underlying true or intrinsic value) are temporary and will tend to 'normalise' or revert to their long-term intrinsic value. These short-term market inefficiencies create investment opportunities.
