Buoyed by a floundering Dollar, the Standard Bank deal and firmer metal prices, the Rand hit a 17- month best level against the greenback, dipping below the R6 level on Friday 26 October 2007.
Although one cannot predict whether the Rand will strengthen further or when it will depreciate, on a balance of probabilities this unpredicted Rand strength presents a unique buying opportunity for the investor with a longer term outlook.
Silke Financial Services has researched various funds, which are either invested offshore or are South African Funds that have a mandate to geographically allocate assets to take advantage of Rand strength.
When investing locally or offshore, bear in mind that an equity investment is a longer term investment. We suggest that you consult with Silke Financial Services to access your tolerance for risk. In this way, we can help you choose funds appropriate to your needs.
With a stronger Rand we should see the petrol price come down in December and imported goods becoming cheaper.
