As 2010 leaves us with memories of yellow shirts, bedraggled 'rainbow' cars and vuvuzelas, I am reminded that it is the festive season once again.
So while most of us are thinking of winding down, my kids continue to pack in twenty10 memories - which I frantically try to capture on my Nokia 'camera'. My new year's resolution: Get a grown-up camera. In my technological struggle I take some solace that I am not alone. Resolution #223: 'I will not spend my money frivolously, I will not...' Many people set goals, but the only beneficial resolution is the one you make and stick to.
My recommendation - Goal #1: Set up an effective financial plan through budgeting. Even the most well organised individuals find it difficult to achieve success without working from a solid foundation. Once you know how much you have, you will be able to be definite in actioning your goals. Ha! and you thought I would let you go on holiday without mentioning budgeting.
In closing, seasons greetings to you all, a very Happy Christmas and Happy Chanukah [Hanukkah]. In Hebrew, the word 'Hanukkah' means dedication. According to the Hanukkah story, once Jewish revolutionaries had retaken the Temple from the Syrians they wanted to rededicate it to G_d and restore its ritual purity. Eight days' worth of oil was needed to complete the ritual purification, but they were only able to find one day's worth of oil. They lit the menorah anyway and miraculously the oil lasted for eight full days.
