I have been giving advice for a while now and yes, clarity does come with experience. Now that I am 40 - I have learnt that this world of financial planning is not as difficult as I initially thought. No, it is definitely not only for the rich and/or old. Anyone can save.
'Hey, if I can do it, you can do it.'
The trick is the 'doing' part! The 'how' is simple. Spend less than you earn. This is the grounding lesson of financial independence. And to the parents out there … you should be teaching your children this lesson. Six years old is not too young. Our school system does not nor is it anywhere near considering to.
The How:
- Start with seriously looking at your spending behaviour though a budget.
- Learn to pay yourself first. This includes meeting your financial objectives. Emergency Fund Bond repayments Financial Independence / Retirement Fund Kids Educational/Holiday etc... Funds
- Whatever is left is GFS - Guilt Free Spending
You don't have to love budgeting, but what is true is that you should learn to love the opportunity - the opportunity to build life, future, health, success and wealth.
It does not matter how old or young you are or how much money you make. If you can generate enough money to meet your needs, you are on the way to achieving financial independence.
For the entrepreneurs out there, this is not intended to cut your wings, but on the contrary, give you the ability to take on more risk without putting your financial plan and family at risk.
