The first whistle of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa will be blown on 11 June 2010 for the FIFA 2010 opening match, but how has 2010 started off for you?
Did you achieve your financial goals this past year and have you re-set goals for the New Year? If you haven't already, it's not too late to draw up some financial New Year's resolutions. The main objective is to develop a very clear picture of what financial freedom looks like to you. Visualise it, make it a goal by writing it down and reinforce by telling people about how you plan to achieve these goals.
It is important to know why you want to become financially free. This may seem like a "no-brainer." After all, why would you want to be in financial bondage because of debt? Freedom-from-debt freedom looks like the logical choice. Nevertheless, your motivation for becoming debt free is important. Being released from the tension and anxiety of debt and being able to do what you want, when you want, might be high on a priority list.
Four simple steps for setting financial goals:
Step 1: Do your monthly budget. Pay yourself first, allowing for guilt free spending of surplus money.
Step 2: Just in case you had an A.D.D. moment and didn't read Step 1. DO your budget.
Step 3: Identify and write down your financial goals. Break each financial goal down into short-term (less than 1 year), medium-term (1 to 3 years) and long-term (5 years or more) goals.
Step 4: Educate yourself!
Step 5: Evaluate your progress to determine if your planning is working. If you're not making satisfactory progress on a particular goal, re-evaluate your approach and make changes as necessary.
BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND DO IT NOW!
