Discovery members now have an option to join the Discovery Health Executive Plan - Discovery's new offering at the top end of the spectrum. This plan has been launched in response to a clearly identifiable requirement in the South African medical scheme market for a top-of-the range plan with the widest spectrum of benefits for high income members.
From a price perspective, the Executive Plan costs approximately 25% more in monthly contributions compared to the Classic Comprehensive Plan.
Unique features of the plan:
- GP consultations are covered up to R250 per consultation
- Private ward cover (up to an additional R750 per day over and above the general ward cost)
- Specialty Medication Benefit up to R400 000 per annum giving members access to the latest groundbreaking technology
- International travel insurance extended up to R10 million
- The highest limits for dentistry, medicine and optical benefits
The plan introduces a new approach to specialist reimbursement:
- For the first time, specialist benefits will be reimbursed and accumulate to the Annual Threshold at 300% of the Discovery Health Rate both for in-and out-of-hospital. This means that, unlike other plans, members who reach their Above Threshold Benefits will continue to receive 300% coverage regardless of how often they consult a specialist on an out-of-hospital basis
- Specialist reimbursement while in-hospital will be paid from the Medical Savings Account or the Above Threshold Benefit and will be paid and accumulate at up to 300%.
| 2007 Contributions | | Executive Plan Contributions | | Contribution | MSA | Total | | Principal member | R1 575 | R525 | R2 100 | | Spouse/adult dependant | R1 575 | R525 | R2 100 | | Child | R300 | R100 | R400 |
Out-of-hospital cover and accumulation for specialists charging above the Discovery Health Rate in particular, has received a major boost in 2007 through the premier rate agreements, reducing the likelihood of co-payments.
